The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a UK Government initiative administered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), designed to help organisations install electric vehicle charging points at workplaces.

The scheme supports businesses, charities and public sector organisations looking to install charging infrastructure for staff and fleet vehicles.

Funding is provided through a contribution towards installation costs, helping organisations reduce the upfront expense of introducing EV charging facilities.

What Support Is Available?

The Workplace Charging Scheme can contribute towards the purchase and installation of approved EV charging equipment.

Current support includes:

  • Funding of up to 75% of eligible installation costs
  • Maximum contribution of £350 per charging socket
  • Support for up to 40 charging sockets per applicant
  • Multiple workplace locations can be included within one application

Funding limits and scheme rules can change over time.

What Could Be Covered?

Eligible costs may include:

  • OZEV-approved EV chargepoints
  • Installation by approved contractors
  • Cabling and electrical works
  • Groundworks and associated installation costs where required
  • Fleet and staff charging facilities

The scheme is intended for workplace use rather than public charging facilities.

Who Could Qualify?

Support may be available if:

  • You are a business operating within the UK
  • You are a registered charity
  • You are a public sector organisation
  • You have dedicated off-street parking facilities for staff or fleet vehicles

Important information:

  • Public charging locations are not normally covered
  • An OZEV-authorised installer is required
  • Applicants contribute towards remaining installation costs

How The Process Works

Step 1 – Submit An Application

Applications are submitted through the Workplace Charging Scheme process.

Step 2 – Receive Voucher Approval

If eligible, applicants receive a voucher code confirming funding approval.

Step 3 – Choose An Approved Installer

Installations must be carried out by an OZEV-authorised installer.

Step 4 – Installation

The installer completes the work and applies the voucher contribution directly to the installation cost.

Applicants pay any remaining balance after funding is deducted.
